On the 2 March 1873 Jonathan Seckington started work at Higham Ferrers Post Office as rural postman for Rushden and Wymington.
In 1889 the British Electric Traction Company submitted plans for the construction of tramroads from Rushden to Irthlingborough and on to Raunds.
