The biggest event and news for August 2025 was the Classic Car Show held in the Hall Park on Sunday 3 August. It was a warm but cloudy day and although there were a few spots of rain it didn’t put anyone off. We were very busy in the museum with over 700 visitors viewing our “Toy Stories” exhibition during the day and we were able to add a reasonable amount of money to our funds by selling books etc. from tables set outside. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves so it was a successful day all round. Praise must go to the organisers, Rushden Historical Transport Society, and to Rushden Town Council.

We also had a small group of visitors from the East Midlands 3 Counties Retired Members Association for NASUWT on the afternoon of 14 August. As it was a small group we were able to chat to all of them, and it was an enjoyable afternoon. They also gave us a very generous donation for which we are very grateful.
The only donation to the museum during August is a collection of deeds and documents relating to a house in Robinson Road. The documents go back to the 1890s so it is possible to follow who owned the house up to the present day. Work has continued with cataloguing and sorting the material bequeathed to us which seems to be a never- ending task.

We also spent one Thursday morning sorting and tidying the storeroom/office. Most of the stuff brought out had to be put back again but at least it is more organised. I’m sure it won’t last, there are too many boxes without a proper home and that will only get worse until more cupboard space is available. All our screens have behaved themselves during the month, and there has been more interest in the screen showing our collection so hopefully that will continue.
