The photo above of Rushden High Street, c1950, shows a flag for Murphy Television and Radio. This flag was on the shop of Horace Wills at 38 High Street. The shop was opened in 1928.

In February 1939 Horace Wills invited several people to Hall Avenue to watch the Boon-Danahar fight on television. A Murphy standard £30 receiver was used and the transmission was received clearly. According to the Rushden Echo and Argus the spoken commentary could “for the main part have been dispensed with.” The fight was held at Harringay and was won by Boon.

The shop was taken over in the late 1960s by H. York & Sons, still radio and television.
