On the evening of Wednesday 20 September we were visited by the 4th Rushden Cub Scouts, with four of their leaders. They did a tour of Rushden Hall, with our chairman, Peter Field, before spending time in the museum. Unfortunately it was a dreadful evening, with rain coming down by the bucketful, so going round the outside of the Hall was not an option, and the children had to make do with photographs. They learned about H. E. Bates and his books which were based on Rushden Hall and about the diaries of Mrs. Frederica St. John Orlebar who, on a visit to Rushden Hall in January 1861, described the view from one of the bay windows across the terrace and the park to the Church. It got dark so early they may not have been able to see it.

After about an hour in the Hall the group spent time in the museum learning about the boot and shoe industry before venturing out in the rain again.
We hope they all enjoyed the evening in spite of the weather.
