One of the items recently donated to Rushden Museum is a L.P. record made by the choir of Chichele School, Rushden. Chichele School was a comprehensive for girls aged from eleven to eighteen. When the Pemberton Boys’ School closed in 1991 the two schools were merged.
According to the information on the back of the album three choirs made up the Chichele School Choir. They were the junior, intermediate and senior choirs, with ages ranging from eleven to eighteen. The choirs had sung at the Oundle Music Festival and at the Northampton Music Festival, and had won several cups and shields. The front cover of the album is the same design as the school blazer at the time.

This album was produced before I started at Chichele School but a further album was recorded during my time in the school choir. The album cover featured photos of all the choir members. I have a copy of this album that I would be willing to loan the museum if required
Hi Dawn, Thank you for the offer of a loan. We only have 4 weeks now until the museum closes for the winter so there would be no point in having it on loan at the moment. Yes, I was in one of the choirs that sang on this album and I still have a copy. It was an exciting experience recording it in the school hall and I remember the songs on it very well, as we had practised them so many times. Mrs McKown, the choir conductor, was an amazing music teacher who gave me a lifelong love of choral singing.
My younger sister Helen sang on this and the next album and still has a copy of both, I believe.
