On display as part of this year’s exhibition, “One Thing Leads to Another,” we have the cap and medals which belonged to Captain A. P. Timpson of the Rushden Fire Brigade.
Albert Timpson was born in Rushden in 1900, the sixth son of William and Elizabeth Timpson. In 1925 he married Lily Ethel Bollard, and they lived at 154 Queen Street, Rushden. He was a plumber by trade, and joined the Rushden Fire Brigade in 1936. He rose from fireman rank to station officer in one jump, about two years after he joined.
He was Rushden’s chief fire officer for 22 years, until he retired from the service in 1958.
Albert died in 1991.
