During the 1960s Rushden Hall had fallen into disrepair and the council really didn’t know what to do with it.  In July 1966 a meeting was called to consider its future and possible demolition, as most of the councillors were reluctant to spend money on it.

Several ideas were put forward, one of which would have demolished most of the building, leaving only the front portion standing.

Local photographer, A. J. George, started a campaign to save the Hall and all the councillors were canvassed in an attempt to get them to vote to save the building.  When the project came before the council in March 1967 all but 4 of the members voted for the scheme which would save nearly the entire Hall.

On 12 June, 2019 during Celebrate Rushden Week, Rushden Museum will be giving a Tour of Rushden Hall followed by tea and cakes served in the Hall.  The tour will start at 2 p.m. and lasts about an hour.  If you would like to see inside the Hall as it is now, to book a place on the tour email: info@rushdenmuseum.co.uk, or call at the museum, Saturday or Sunday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  On the 12 June the museum will be open from 1.30 p.m. to 4 p.m., and in the evening from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. when there will be a display of scouting outside.

Booking is essential as there are only 15 places on the tour.
