We would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and all best wishes for 2025.
2024 has been a busy year, starting with our AGM in April. As our exhibition for the year was entitled ‘Framed’, the talk, given by Jon-Paul Carr, was ‘Rushden Through the Photo Frame.’ The slides used were from the A. J. George Collection.
This photo was taken from the tower of St. Mary’s Church and shows Newton Road with the United Counties Bus Garage, Ebenezer Terrace, and the Fire Station
We were visited by the 4th Rushden Beavers, who also did a tour of Rushden Hall, and we gave a talk on the Boot and Shoe Industry at Freemen’s Endowed Church of England Junior Academy in Wellingborough. We enjoyed both events and met some lovely children.
The mosaic to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II was fixed to the wall outside the museum but has since been covered until a Perspex cover can be fitted to protect it. It’s sad that neither Clive Wood, who designed the mosaic, and Liam Dorney, who was in charge of the Rushden Library section, are not still with us to see it finally displayed.
The Classic Car Day on August 4 was a brilliant event. Everyone seemed to be having a lovely time and we had well over 600 visitors through the museum. Even the weather was kind to us that day.

During the year work has continued sorting material bequeathed to us and some of it has now been catalogued and packed away. Still very much a work in progress. The project to put our collection onto a touch screen has hit a bit of a snag, which is very disappointing, but we are hopeful that it will eventually go ahead even if not how we originally planned it. In the meantime some items are being added to this web site under ‘Our Collection.’
