On the 19 June 1936 it was reported in the Rushden Echo and Argus that two members of the Rushden Century Road Cycling Club, R. Page and C. Knight, made an attempt on the Cambridge-and-back record. They left Rushden early on the previous Sunday morning, the 14 June, riding a tandem cycle, and achieved a good time of 3hrs. 17mins. 21secs., which was a club record. The cyclists were presented with certificates to mark their achievement.

Later the same day a party of 28 cycled to Eynesbury, where they enjoyed bathing, boating and football after which they had a picnic on the banks of the river, before returning to Rushden.
The following Sunday, 21 June, 1936, Mr. John Thomas Partridge, aged 30, of 155 Irchester Road, Rushden, secretary of the Rushden Century Road Cycling Club, was admitted to Northampton General Hospital suffering from cuts, abrasions and concussion after having an accident whilst taking part in a hundred-mile run with the Club.
