On the 13 April 1928 the Rushden Echo reported on a meeting of the Factory Bowling League which was held at the Waverley Hotel the week previously. The meeting was chaired by Mr. G. W. Coles, J.P., and he was supported by the secretary, Mr. F. Noble. Several boot and shoe firms indicated that they would be taking part in the 1928 season, including Messrs. Robinson Bros., one team; Messrs. G. Denton, one; Messrs. B. Ladds, one; Messrs. J. White, one; Messrs. Tarry, one; Messrs. J. and C. Claridge, two; Messrs. Sanders and Sanders, two; Messrs. J. Cave and Sons, one; C.W.S., three. It was decided to change the name of the league to “The Rushden Works Bowling League” and adjourn the meeting until Friday April 20th, to enable other teams to enter.
The Spencer Park Bowling Club Factory League Competition Shield
The Shield was presented by Councillor Fred Corby, currier, John Street, Rushden, in 1923, and in that year it was won by the A team of W. H. Davison & Co. Ltd. The A team of John Cave & Sons Ltd. were the winners in 1924 and 1925, and the John White C team in 1926. In 1927 and 1928 it was the C.W.S. C team, and in 1930 the A team of J. & C. Claridge.
