Saturday 29 September 2018 was Bernard Vann VC Memorial Day and at the Rushden Museum we were very fortunate to be loaned a collection of personal items by Bernard Vann’s family. These included his medals which were guarded by two soldiers. The weather was perfect and the entertainment in the Walled Garden was well attended. Rushden Museum was very busy all afternoon, and as usual, we were visited by some lovely people, including several members of the Vann family.
Our display was intended to be for the one afternoon only, but the family have very kindly allowed us to keep the items over the weekend, and for Monday and Tuesday when the museum is to be visited by classes from the Henry Chichele School in Higham Ferrers. Unfortunately we could not keep the medals but the rest of the display remains until after the school visit.
